County Council Approves Chevy Chase Lake Zoning Amendments

The County Council acting on Tuesday March 11, 2014, adopted the sectional

map amendment that makes the Chevy Chase Lake zoning amendments final

and effective. Adoption permits Chevy Chase Land Co., the owner of the

supermarket and lumberyard lots, and the Housing Opportunities Corporation,

the owner of the apartments on Chevy Chase Lake Drive to move forward with

development when they choose whether or not the Purple Line goes forward.

Mean while, the Purple line received limited endorsement in the Presidents

Budget released in early March. It was listed as one of seven recommended

New Starts Projects in the Federal Transit Budget. These seven represent a

total investment of over 13 Billion dollars. The Purple line is listed at $2.3 Billion

and the Baltimore Red Line is included for $2.6 Billion. These projects are not

approved nor ready for implementation at this time

Funding of $100 million for Purple line development in the coming fiscal year is

recommended in the budget. This amount will help continue development of the

project. The Congress must still appropriate even this small amount.

Purple Line as of early March 2014. R. Bowman March 12, 2014

____________

The Hamlet Citizens Association is a group of dedicated neighbor volunteers who gather four or more times a year to discuss issues, create fellowship among neighbors, act as spokesperson for the neighborhood in civic matters, and communicate with residents on pertinent neighborhood issues. The Association is responsible for upholding Association Bylaws,  periodic newsletters, neighborhood alerts, and the neighborhood website. The Association consists of residents from the “new” and “old” Hamlet, and includes representatives from the Hamlet Garden Club and the Chevy Chase Fire Board. Many talented neighbors work “behind the scenes” to make life in the Hamlet better and safer for everyone.
